Romeo and Juliet Festival (Faida)

La Faida is a spectacular festival you won't want to miss which occurs towards the end of April and beginning of May each year in the town of Montecchio Maggiore just 5 kilometers from Vicenza. The event celebrates the well known legend of Romeo and Juliet which Shakespeare adapted from a story by Luigi del Porta of Vicenza.

The festival is held both inside and outside the medieval walls of Romeo and Juliet's castles, paying tribute to the time with period costumes, food stands, entertainment and historical festivities. The atmosphere inside the castle walls with knights and noblemen parading around in full dress costume is magical. The town of Montecchio also holds a summer opera festival both in town and at Romeo's castle, with various music, theater, cinema and ballet events.
