An hour's drive from Vicenza, the beach in Sottomarina is a good place to go if you want to experience a geniune local beach. You won't find Northern Europeans on holiday here, nor is it a "beach resort" town, just a down to earth real local getaway.
Chioggia and Sottomarina are just south of Venice Italy across the lagoon, and offer what beach resorts just don't have - a real local hotspot where Northern Italians go to get away for the day.

Chioggia is similar to Venice in many ways. Lined with canals and fish markets, this charming little town has a Venetian feel to it but without all the tourists. The locals are much more easy going in Chioggia as are the prices! It's actually very refreshing to get away from all the tourist traps every once in a while and just take in a bit of the local lifestyle for a change.
