Villa Sale Di S. Damiano Curti

Located about 15 kilometers from Vicenza in the town of Sovizzo, Villa Sale dates back to the end of the 16th century.  The villa has undergone numerous changes thru the centuries, including a neo-Gothic wing which was added in the 19th century.  The lovely park has 17th century statues, archeological fragments, paleochristian urns and an ancient theater with auditorium.  The frescoes on the facade are from the 19th century.

Villa Piovene Da Schio

Commissioned by the Piovene family and built in 1666, Villa Piovene Da Schio may be the work of architect A. Pizzocaro.  Towards the middle of the 18th century a four-sided portico was added in the back.  The sculptures on the facade and statues in the garden are from the workshop of Marinali during the 18th century.  The inside of the villa is decorated with fine paintings and antique furniture.

Villa Trissino Marzotto

Built on the site of an ancient castle, Villa Trissino is exceptionally beautiful and unique in the Veneto region with its assortment of gardens, alleys, staircases, park and ponds. The upper villa was enlarged in the 18th century by G. Dal Pozzo, whereas the gardens and park were the work of F. Muttoni.  The numerous statues adorning the gardens are by Marinali and G. Cassetti, while the interior frescoes are by A. Porta.

Romeo and Juliet's castles

Site of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the castles were built by the Scaligeri of Verona in the 14th century.  The upper castle was all but destroyed when the Venetian republic annexed Vicenza but was later rebuilt.  The castles have served over the years as part of a chain of defensive outposts.  On a clear day you can make out the pre-Alps of Verona and the Appennine mountains near Modena.

Villa Cordellina Lombardi

Built in the true Palladian style and designed by G. Massari for C. Cordellina in 1735, Villa Cordellina in Montecchio Maggiore was completed 25 years later in 1760.  Of particular interest are the statues and ornamental vases on top of the pillars in the garden, and the two side rustic buildings with porticoes.  The frescoes by G. B. Tiepolo in the central hall on both the walls and ceiling are stunning.

Villa Da Porto - Montorso

Built in the 18th century, Villa Da Porto in Montorso houses the ruins of the Da Porto family's previous residence where Luigi Da Porto (author of the short story which Shakespeare later developed into Romeo and Juliet) used to spend his time.  The current building is most likely the work of Cherette, architect and geographer for the king of France.

Villa Valmarana Morosini

Built in 1724 for Benedetto Valmarana by architect F. Muttoni, Villa Valmarana Morosini is a majestic villa located in nearby Altavilla.  Although the original project was never completed, the central hall is elaborately decorated with stuccoes.  The villa is now a center for specialized studies in economics.

Villa Pasini Canera Di Salasco

Housing an important collection of paintings, Villa Pasini Canera Di Salasco in Arcugnano was the work of Bertotti Scanozzi in 1770, a neo-classical architect who closely followed Palladian designs and architecture.  In the second half of the 19th century the villa was expanded after acquiring a large annex in the style of romantic classicism.
