La Cappella degli Scrovegni in Padua is a 14th century masterpiece by the Italian artist Giotto which offers a full array of incredibly well preserved frescoes. The frescoes in the Scrovegni chapel are themed, focusing on episodes in the lives of Joachim and Anna, the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ's life and death.

Commisioned by Enrico degli Scrovegni, the Chapel was dedicated to St. Mary of the Charity and the frescoes were painted between 1303 - 1305. The goal was to encourage visitors to reflect on Christ's sacrifice and the salvation of mankind. Conservation efforts and restorations on the Scrovegni chapel were performed in the late 19th century and again in the 1960s with a system for purifying the air now installed.
